The bear was seen walking behind a residence in North Salem on Titicus Road near the Baxter Preserve, North Salem Supervisor Warren Lucas said in a post on social media.

The sighting was captured by a camera used by enthusiasts to take pictures of animals, Lucas said.

"Please take your bird feeders in!" Lucas wrote on social media.

According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, residents can protect themselves and their properties from bears by not feeding them and reducing attractants by hiding garbage cans, feeders, and pet food.
